For Your Eyes Only 1981

This was the twelfth James Bond film in the series and the fifth for which Derek Meddings supervised the visual effects. The movie begins with a pretty decent miniature trawler/spy ship sinking sequence. The St Georges trawler miniature was around 25 feet long (7.62m) and constructed by Terry reed and his associates. Other miniatures constructed for the film were miniature representations of Roger Moore and Carol Bouquet in yellow diving suits, a two person submersible and a one man submersible. The trawler sinking sequence was shot in the outdoor Paddock tank at Pinewood studios.

Fire Over England 1937

Special effects supervisor Ned Mann and his assistant Laurence Butler burn many small miniature ships in this tale of the English vs Spanish during the rein of Elizabeth the first. The miniature work is a little dated, and the small scale of the models and the studio tank is evident in the miniature sequences.

Fire over England is now in the Public Domain and available to download and view from the Internet Archive.

Ferry to Hong Kong 1959

The model ship of the title has a short  but mostly effective night time typhoon sequence by British effects supervisor Syd Pearson.
Orson Welles appears here in one of the most embarrassingly bad and undignified performances of his career. His English accent sounds like a "Limey" parody.
