Brides of Fu Manchu 1966

Thanks to Dennis Nicholson for spotting this title which features a couple of shots of a model ship that appears to have been photographed on location, probably just being pushed on a dolly. The ship looks like it may have been a display model from a shipping company although it does not match either of the two actual ships that were named "Windsor Castle".

It is followed by a dodgy split screen superimposed explosion where the matte line is clearly visible.

There is also a miniature aerial/ death ray and a sort of mountain/ volcano/ pile of rocks which is the baddies base which explodes at the end.

Note prominent horizontal split screen matte line just under both ships.

7th Voyage of Sinbad 1958

To complete the series on Ray Harryhausen films here is a movie which as far as model ships go, features shots entirely lifted from previous productions, mostly unrelated pirate movies which (except for the first shot) do not match the arabic lateen sails of the full size sets or the subject matter.

The other miniatures are of a cave and tunnel which is used as a background for the stop motion animated creatures and the live action.

Around the World in 80 Days 1956

This title was suggested by a reader Robert, it's a movie that although I have known of it, I had never actually seen.

A couple of miniature ship scenes appear along with a miniature balloon shot over famous landmarks and a miniature trestle bridge collapse.

According to IMDB the miniature ship shots were supervised by Fox's Fred Sersen in the Fox tank. There are two ships depicted and it looks like the same model with some modifications and an altered paint job, was used for the second version.
