In Which We Serve 1942

Another classic British naval movie made during the war with some competent miniature ship action.

Douglas Woolsey was responsible for the special effects and this film shows a marked improvement in the quality of the miniature work over Sailors Three made two years earlier.

Like We Dive At Dawn this movie is also available in a rough version on the Internet Archive site, link below. Better (clearer) copies can be found on commercial DVDs.

We Dive At Dawn 1943

A classic British war film concerning the submarine service has a small number of very effective miniature shots.

The underwater model shots represent the murky short visibility nature of sea water very well, which is very unusual for the period as most submarine films at the time had unrealistically clear water. The visual effects are not credited.

A low resolution version of the movie can be found for viewing and downloading on the internet archive site at this link; https://archive.org/details/We_Dive_at_Dawn_1943 though slightly crisper versions can be found on commercial DVDs.

A sense of Scale - a DVD documentary review

Berton Pierce has made a movie miniature fan's dream documentary. It is full of the legendary modelmakers of the 70's, 80's and 90's talking about their work on the blockbuster movies of the period. You get from watching the DVD a deep sense of the hand crafted nature of visual effects in those days and it is a joy to watch.  Thoroughly recommended.

Below is the trailer for the film.
